pureambient links

the following links will take you exploring other artists with similar musical
qualities to the artists at pureambient.com. the artists listed here for the most
part are in the tradition of ambient pioneer brian eno, producing quiet, relaxing music.
all of these artists also produce semiambient and/or active work, which
gives the listener a broad range of selection.
featuring bill nelson, roger eno, kate st. john and laraaji, channel light vessel are pioneering
ambient/progressive artists. they currently have two releases available, and we recommend
the newest, "excellent spirits" most highly.
one of the most influential recording artists of our day, brian eno remains at the
forefront of ambient music. now also a renowned producer, eno has a large back catalog of
excellent work. you might also want to check out the eno world which is another pretty cool eno
page. eno uses mainly synthesizers and keyboards to create his minimilistic music, but his
methodology and the aural results are fascinating. he makes some of the quietest, most
peaceful music on the planet...suitable for active listening, as ambient background, or
music to sleep to. recommended: "music for airports", "thursday
afternoon", "neroli", "music for films", "the shutov
assembly" and "discreet music".
renowned king crimson guitarist robert fripp remains one of the most creative and
talented artists in the realms of the ambient, using electric guitar to create first
"frippertronics" back in the 80s, and now their current equivalent
"soundscapes". the best Fripp site is discipline
global mobile. another excellent fripp resource is elephant talk which is
a base for king
crimson and related artists. fripp encompasses more dissonance and musical hazard than
artists like channel light vessel or eno, so if you like music that is out on the
edge...give these a try: "november suite", "a blessing of tears",
"that which passes", "let the power fall", or
"radiophonics". also recommended are the two fripp & eno discs, "no
pussyfooting" and "evening star"...groundbreaking work in the field of
ambient music and looping. if you prefer the acoustic side of things,
try the guitar craft and seattle
guitar circle sites. another cool fripp-related resource is elephant tape an excellent site
that provides RealAudio sound samples of king crimson/robert fripp-related artists and the
music of various crafty guitarists.
after working as the frontman for both be-bop deluxe and red noise, and making his
first few solo albums bill nelson began to feel
dissatisfied with the standard guitar vocabulary. he then proceeded to put aside the
"standard guitar" and spent a number of years creating a large body of excellent
ambient music. bill specializes in energy bow guitar, but also utilizes acoustic and
electric guitar and keyboards to create some of the most remarkable ambient music around.
bill has only recently returned to playing lead guitar (with excellent results) in the
last few years. recommendations: "crimsworth", "chance encounters in the
garden of light", "the summer of god's piano", "chamber of
dreams", "pavilions of the heart and soul", "a catalogue of
obsessions" and (a bit more active perhaps) "map of dreams".
an exciting page devoted to the art of looping, called looper's delight, showcases the
technological devices and methods that some ambient artists use to create their music by
"looping" sounds with various digital delays. musicians in particular will want
to check out this page.
try out this very cool site, with a great look and feel, and some
pretty nice ambient sounds too - mythos.
